If you’ve driven along US 30 near Meijer in Merrillville, you’ve probably passed The Peach Cobbler Factory more than once. This week’s Region Beacon shines on Cheri and Cornelius Henderson, the husband-and-wife team behind it.
The Hendersons opened their doors in May 2024, bringing a dessert concept that started in Nashville to Northwest Indiana. The brand’s motto, “It’s a Southern Thang,” sums up what they’re going for: warm, comfort-style desserts served in an atmosphere that feels just as warm. Cornelius recently talked about that journey on
The InterviewU Podcast, sharing what it took to go from an idea to a working business in Merrillville.
Walk in and you’ll find twelve flavors of cobbler, each served warm with a complimentary side of ice cream. Beyond cobbler, the menu covers a lot of ground: banana pudding, cinnamon rolls, churro stix, cookies, and brownies, along with Cobbler Shakes and Pudding Shakes – any of their cobbler or pudding flavors blended right into a milkshake. You may have also spotted their food trailer out and about in the area, and they cater events and business gatherings as well.
What stands out most about The Hendersons isn’t just the menu. They’re Merrillville residents themselves, not an outside operator running a location from a distance. Since opening, they’ve made a habit of showing up for local schools and community events, the kind of involvement that turns a business into a neighbor.
